If you are having a general anaesthetic whether as a day case or an inpatient stay, you will need to fast for 6 hours prior to the operation. If you are having a local anaesthetic then you can eat as normal up until the procedure.
Most regular medications should be taken as normal and your surgeon and anaesthetist will tell you if there are exceptions to this policy.
After the operation there will be some discomfort at the site of surgery although the degree and duration will vary depending on the type of procedure. The amount of time off work with also vary and will be discussed with you by your surgeon at the time of the consultation.
We use the most advanced anaesthetic techniques available which drastically improve postoperative pain and allow us to do many patients as day cases. If there are any postoperative issues that cause concern, please call: 020 7034 8266
